Prosecutors and investigators of the Special Department for War Crimes participated in an expert workshop on the processes of exhumation, forensic analysis, identification and search for missing persons, including taking bone samples for identification through DNA analysis.
The workshop participants, representatives of the Missing Persons Institute (MPI) of BiH, forensic and medical experts and representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH discussed practical issues and standard operating procedures, risks in field work and the importance of consistent actions according to established procedures in the process of searching for missing persons.
Every year, employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH coordinate field activities and manage exhumation processes at an average of about 80-100 sites throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The expert workshop was organised by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), with the support of the European Union.
