INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST RADISLAV KRSTIĆ* FOR WAR CRIMES IN NOVOSEOCI NEAR SOKOLAC

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH issued an indictment against Radislav Krstić*, born in 1948 in Vlasenica, a citizen of BiH and the Republic of Serbia, who is serving a prison sentence imposed by the ICTY.

 

INDICTMENT ISSUED AGAINST RADISLAV KRSTIĆ* FOR WAR CRIMES IN NOVOSEOCI NEAR SOKOLAC

The accused is charged with having participated, in his capacity as the commander of the 2nd Romanija Motorized Brigade of the RS Army,  in a joint criminal enterprise and attack on the village of Novoseoci, located in the municipality of Sokolac and inhabited by a Bosniak population, perpetrated on 21/22 September 1992 during the conflict as part of a widespread and systematic attack by the Territorial defense, RS Army and police against the civilian Bosniak population in the area of ​​Sokolac and its surroundings. After the attack, the women and children were separated from the men, and the captured men were transported in military trucks to a dump at the Ivan Polje location, where they were shot and killed by gunfire. A total of 44 victims were killed at the location, the youngest of whom was 14 and the oldest 77. The bodies of 43 victims were exhumed and found, while the remains of one victim are still missing. During the crime, property was looted and destroyed, and the local mosque was demolished and its debris dumped on top of the victims’ bodies at the Ivan Polje landfill.

 

The accused Krstić* is charged with having planned, ordered, committed, aided and abetted in the planning, preparation, commission and concealment of a war crime committed against the population of the village of Novoseoci, thereby committing the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172, paragraph 1, item h) in conjunction with items a) and d) of the Criminal Code of BiH, all in conjunction with Article 180, paragraph 1 and Articles 29, 30 and 31 of the same Code.
