INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING 30 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS

 A Prosecutor of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an indictment against Željko Kukec, born in 1961 in Bjelovar, Republic of Croatia, a citizen of the Republic of Croatia.

INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING 30 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS

 The accused is charged with having, on 3 August 2022, with the aim of obtaining illegal property gain and in accordance with a previous agreement with a person known to him, attempted to carry out illegal transfer of 30 migrants, citizens of the Republic of Turkey, including one minor, from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the territory of the Republic of Croatia and the EU, for a monetary compensation of 500 euros per person, well aware of the fact that the smuggled persons - migrants do not meet the conditions for legal residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor the conditions for legal crossing of the BiH state border.

According to the indictment, during the regular transport of goods in the cargo space of the cargo motor vehicle he was driving, the accused attempted to illegally smuggle migrants across the state border, and was prevented from doing so during a regular control by officers of the BiH Border Police at the Šamac border crossing.

 

The accused is charged with having committed the criminal offense of Smuggling of Persons under Article 189, paragraph 4, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in conjunction with Article 26 of the same Code.

 

The accused is in custody, and the indictment has been sent to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
