MEETING OF THE ACTING CHIEF PROSECUTOR OF THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF BiH AND DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR MISSING PERSONS - ICMP

Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Milanko Kajganić, met with the Director of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) Kathryne Bomberger.

Central topics of the meeting related to the process of searching for and identifying the remaining 7,400 missing persons still sought in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Acting Chief Prosecutor Kajganić pointed out that the institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina need the help of ICMP, especially in terms of engaging modern technological resources to search for the location of mass graves and the remains of missing persons.

He pointed out that investigators and professional staff of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH are out in the field almost every day on various locations searching for missing persons in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because finding and identifying missing persons is important evidence for war crimes cases.

ICMP Director Bomberger pointed out that continuous joint work of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina is needed, with the help of ICMP and the international community, in order to enable expedited search for missing persons as well as that regional cooperation is important segment in the process.

The joint conclusion of the meeting is that the search for missing persons is a priority because of the families of victims who have been searching for the remains of their close relatives for more than 27 years, as well as for the rule of law process in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
