Task Force for Fight Against Trafficking In Human Beings And Organised Illegal Immigration

Pursuant to the Decision of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Official Gazette of BiH No. 3/04) the Task Force for Fight Against Trafficking in Human Beings and Organized Illegal Immigration as a form of crime has been established. The Task Force works on the territory of the whole Bosnia and Herzegovina and it consists of representatives of prosecutor’s offices, authorities of internal affairs, taxation bodies, financial police, State Border Services thus involving all those who could contribute to fight against trafficking in human beings and illegal immigration. The Task Force closely cooperates with the State Coordinator for fight against trafficking in human beings and illegal immigration including the European Police, US Department of Justice at the US Embassy in Sarajevo, ICITAP, the International Organization for Migration and various non-governmental organisations dealing with protection of victims of trafficking such as the Association of the Humanitarian Organizations in International Forum of Solidarity, the Association of Women of BiH Mostar, the Organization of Women “Lara” from Bijeljina, Foundation “La Strada” Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Centre for Therapy of Women “Medica” Zenica, the Association “Vaša Prava” of Bosnia and Herzegovina and others.

Under the direct management of the Chief Prosecutor of BiH, the Task Force has competence to ensure cooperation of competent bodies and organizations, conduct investigations and form operative investigation teams working on collection and exchange of relevant data and information related to cases of trafficking in human beings and related illegal immigrations aimed at their prevention. The Task Force also includes two expert representatives, the Prosecutors of the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

In July 2005 the Procedures for Treating Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina were designed in line with the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime and its Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, other international conventions and protocols as well as positive regulations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During 2005 investigations in several cases were conducted in a few cases of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the field of trafficking in human beings with financial and operative assistance of the Task Force.
