In the presence of the President and officials of EUROJUST (European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation), a consultative forum of Chief Prosecutors and Chief Special Prosecutors of the countries of the Western Balkans region was held in Sarajevo.
The consultative forum was opened by the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Milanko Kajganić, the President of EUROJUST, Michael Schmid, and Adebayo Babajide, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The topics of the forum were related to strengthening cooperation in work on organized crime and corruption cases, as well as the presentation of a practical guide for Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) for representatives of the prosecutor’s offices of the Western Balkans. These teams, formed under the auspices of EUROJUST, operate within the framework of activities and cases in which a larger number of countries participate, in order to combat various forms of cross-border and international crime more effectively.
The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has so far participated in about 10 joint investigation teams, with EU countries and Western Balkan countries, and this practice will continue in the future.
Within the framework of the Consultative Forum, individual bilateral meetings of EUROJUST officials were held with representatives of the prosecutor’s offices of all participating countries in the forum, as well as bilateral meetings between the prosecutor’s offices of the participating countries.
The Consultative Forum was held with the support of the Western Balkans Criminal Justice project within the EUROJUST, and another Consultative Forum is planned to be held in 2027.
