MORTAL REMAINS OF VICTIMS MISSING FROM THE PAST WAR FOUND AND EXHUMED IN VIŠEGRAD

An investigator from the Special Department for War Crimes is on the ground, at a site in Okolišta, in Višegrad municipality, where, as ordered by the prosecutor in charge of the case and by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, she is coordinating the work of all officers participating in the process of exhumation and search for missing persons. 

MORTAL REMAINS OF VICTIMS MISSING FROM THE PAST WAR FOUND AND EXHUMED IN VIŠEGRAD

Mortal remains of at least five persons were found at the said location, but the search continues.

The exhumation was attended by a permanent forensic expert-pathologist, a representative of the Missing Persons’ Institute (MPI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, necessary workers and machinery, as well as SIPA police officers, whereas police officers of the Police Station of Višegrad are securing the site.

After the exhumation, the remains will be transferred to the "Miljevići" City Cemetery in East Sarajevo for further forensic and medical processing and identification by way of the DNA analysis.

In this case, information and knowledge about the site containing the aforementioned mortal remains were obtained through joint and coordinated work of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, SIPA and the Missing Persons’ Institute (MPI) of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
