INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS

The accused persons are charged with smuggling about 60 migrants from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the territory of the Republic of Croatia, in the second half of last year.

INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS

A Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following persons:

1.      Zejid Šabić, born in 1969 in Velika Kladuša, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina

2.      Hasib Mehić, born in 1969 in Velika Kladuša, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina

3.      Senail Miskić, born in 1991 in Velika Kladuša, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina

4.      Damir Hušidić, born in 1981 in Velika Kladuša, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina

These accused persons are charged with acting as an organized group with clearly divided roles and tasks, in order to acquire unlawful material gain, and transporting and smuggling illegal migrants who did not meet the conditions for legal entry and stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, mainly from the territory of the Una-Sana Canton, and towards the territory of the Republic of Croatia and the European Union.

The Indictment alleges that, in the period from early September 2020 to December 2020, these accused persons smuggled about 60 illegal migrants, and in that way they acquired significant amounts of unlawful material gain and caused damage to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, endangering security with the stay and transport of illegal migrants on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aforementioned accused persons are charged with the criminal offence of Organizing a Group or Association for the Purpose of Perpetrating the Criminal Offence of Smuggling of Migrants, referred to in Article 189a, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in conjunction with the criminal offence of Smuggling of Persons, referred to in Article 189, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will prove the allegations in the Indictment by calling 30 witnesses and 2 expert witnesses, as well as by submitting 145 pieces of material evidence.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
