INDICTMENT ISSUED FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN THE AREA OF ORAŠJE

Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against Mirko Jurić aka ‘Kemi’, born in 1972 in Donja Mahala in the Municipality of Orašje, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.

This accused person is charged with committing and aiding and abetting the persecution of the Serb population on political, national, ethnical, cultural and religious grounds, in the camps in the High School Center in Orašje and in the Primary School in Donja Mahala, in the period from August of 1992 to September of 1993, during the international armed conflict in the wider region of Orašje Municipality, while he was a member of the Military Police of the 106th Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO); thus, he was acting in contravention of the rules of international humanitarian law.

This accused person is charged with committing the killing of one Serb victim and tortures and mistreatment of several victims, and he is also accused of the rape and sexual harassment of two victims in the area of Orašje.  

Moreover, this accused person is charged with participating in the tortures and inhumane treatment, as well as in inflicting immense suffering and violation of bodily integrity and health upon the prisoners of war detained in the camp which was located in the Primary School in Donja Mahala, in Orašje Municipality.

This accused person is charged with the commission of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity, as referred to in Article 172, and the criminal offense of War Crimes against Prisoners of War, as referred to in Article 175, item a) in conjunction with Article 180, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
