The suspect is under investigation for war crimes committed against ethnic Serb victims during 1992 in the Sarajevo area.

WAR CRIMES SUSPECT DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY IN SARAJEVO

By order of the Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes, police officials of SIPA located and arrested one suspect, a former member of the Army of BiH, in the Sarajevo area

In the interest of the investigation and the continuance of activities, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will not disclose the identity of the suspect at this time.

The suspect is under investigation and is charged with having committed crimes against ethnic Serb victims - civilians and elderly people who continued living in the town area under the control of the Army of BiH during the war in BiH.

He is suspected of having, together with persons known to him, conducted illegal searches and deprivations of liberty of Serb civilians, men and women of different ages, in Alipašino Polje and other Sarajevo settlements. The civilians were unlawfully imprisoned in a makeshift prison in Alipašino Polje settlement and other facilities located in the municipality of Novi Grad.

The investigation in this case relates to the killings, unlawful imprisonment, rape, torture and inhuman treatment of victims.

The suspect will be handed over to the Assigned Prosecutor within the legal deadline.  The Prosecutor will examine the suspect and then make a decision on how to proceed in accordance with the law.

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH continues its investigation in this case.
