CHIEF PROSECUTOR MET WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF THE KINGDOM OF NORWAY TO BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

At this meeting, the issue of strengthening the capacities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the most important judicial topics were discussed.

The Chief Prosecutor Salihović informed H.E. Vibeke Lilloe of the results that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH achieved in 2013, with Indictments filed against 469 persons, which makes them best results for the last decade, since the establishment of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH. Moreover, the issue of strengthening and increase of capacities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the past year and the activities aimed at the future capacity strengthening were discussed.

Ambassador Lilloe and her associates were interested in the process of strengthening the capacities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the process of implementation of the conclusions of the Structured Dialogue on the judicial reform.

The Chief Prosecutor informed the Ambassador of the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH relative to the strengthening of regional and international cooperation between Prosecutor’s Offices regarding the prosecution of war crimes cases, as well as other cases falling within the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

One of the topics of the meeting referred to the capacity strengthening and finding efficient solutions for combating corruption in the region and worldwide, just like the Republic of Croatia has done it by forming USKOK.   

At this meeting, support was expressed to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in its efforts to establish the rule of law and prosecute the most severe criminal offenses for the purpose of creating a better security situation in the process of bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European integrations.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway noted that, for more than a decade now, the Government of Norway has been providing active support to the strengthening of the rule of law in BiH and that it will continue supporting judicial institutions in BiH, including the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding the independence of the judiciary.

The Chief Prosecutor Salihović thanked the Ambassador of Norway on the support that this country has been providing to the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years in the process of judicial reform and establishing the rule of law in our country.
