SEMIR ŠKALJO (1989) ACCUSED OF ENDANGERING INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSONS

24.10.2023. 12:25

A Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against the following person:

- Semir Škaljo, born in 1989 in Zenica, with multiple prior convictions, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • SEMIR ŠKALJO (1989) ACCUSED OF ENDANGERING INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSONS

The accused is charged with sending threatening messages, via social networks, to the official profile of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus threatening the security of the Embassy’s diplomatic staff members subject to international legal protection in accordance with Article 1 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents.

The Indictment alleges that the aforementioned accused person, dissatisfied with the fact that he was deported from the Kingdom of Sweden in 2017, sent threats to the life and safety of the Embassy’s staff members, and he also personally visited the diplomatic mission, where he asked to speak with the then Ambassador, but was prevented from doing so by the security personnel. When he visited the Embassy’s premises for the second time, there was a reaction from the security officer and a police officer of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina was notified thereof, and subsequently, SIPA police officers arrived at the scene and arrested the accused.

This accused person is charged with endangering the safety of internationally protected persons by making serious threats to attack diplomatic personnel and official premises, whereby he committed the criminal offence of Endangering Internationally Protected Persons, referred to in Article 192 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The prosecution will prove the allegations of the Indictment by calling nine (9) witnesses and submitting around twenty (20) pieces of material evidence.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
