’In order to make progress on the reform path, Bosnia and Herzegovina has to strictly enforce the rule of law, preserve and strengthen the independence of its judicial system’, said today Valentin Inzko, High Representative, following a meeting with Gordana Tadić, Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

’In every democratic system, courts and prosecutors are the foundation of the rule of law. Bearing in mind that the jurisdiction of the State Court and the Prosecutor’s Office is to deal with the most serious cases and those affecting the whole country, these institutions have an obligation to act so as to convince the public that justice is attainable and that laws are applied fairly and equally to all’, added High Representative Inzko.

’Everyday I receive letters from citizens, who usually complain to me about the lack of the rule of law and how frustrated they are, because justice is unattainable. The answer to this is that all authorities should allow the building of an independent, responsible, professional and efficient judiciary, capable of reacting efficiently and quickly whenever law is violated. We put faith in the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH that it is able to successfully prosecute criminal cases and thus prove to citizens that justice is attainable’, said the High Representative, expressing his full support to the professional work of judicial and other institutions of the rule of law.
