TWO PERSONS SUSPECTED OF COMMITTING WAR CRIMES APPREHENDED

By order of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this morning in the municipalities of Laktaši and Drvar, the members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA have arrested two persons who are charged with having committed criminal offences under Article 172, 173 and 175 of the BiH Criminal Code.

The following persons were deprived of liberty:

-      Dronjak Ratko, born on April 6, 1962 in Drvar, residing in Laktaši, citizen of BiH and

-      Dragan Rodić AKA "Šaula", born on August 10, 1963 in Drvar municipality where he resides, citizen of BiH.

Dronjak Ratko was deprived of liberty in Laktaši and Rodić Dragan in Vrtoč a place located near by Drvar.

The suspect Dronjak Ratko was, during the course of an armed conflict in BiH, the commander of the war camp "Kamenica" located in the village of Kamenica in Drvar in which civilians and prisoners of war, members of the Army of BiH and the HVO, were incarcerated from 1992 to 1995, while Rodić Dragan was a guard in the same camp.

Suspects Rodić Dragan and Dronjak Ratko are suspected of killing about 50 civilians and prisoners of war, members of the Army of BiH and the HVO; of inflicting serious bodily injuries to a large number of detainees who went through the "Kamenica" camp in the period from 1992 to 1995; for holding them incarcerated under cruel and degrading conditions, creating an atmosphere of terror, depriving them of basic necessities, submitting them through everyday questionings, beatings, torture, harassment, humiliation, psychological abuse; of failing to provide medical care and keeping the detainees in constant fear for their lives.

They are charged with violating international humanitarian law, and with committing the following criminal offences: Crimes against Humanity under Article 172, War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173 and War Crimes against Prisoners of War under Article 175 of the BiH Criminal Code.

The supects will be handed over to the BiH Prosecutor's Office, where they will be questioned by the assigned prosecutor who will decide whether to file a motion for ordering custody.
